31 year-old Heather Payne is the CEO of HackerYou, Canada’s original programming bootcamp and the only one of dozens around North America founded by women. Now a registered Private Career College, HackerYou offers both full- and part-time courses for people who want to learn front-end development, back-end development or design and serves over 1000 students a year from a 12,000 square foot campus in downtown Toronto.
In 2011, Heather founded Ladies Learning Code, a Canadian not-for-profit organization that runs popular workshops for women (and men, and girls and boys) who want to learn computer programming and other technical skills in a social and collaborative way. Ladies Learning Code now has chapters in over 30 cities across Canada and has served tens of thousands of Canadians. The organization was recently renamed Canada Learning Code and in 2017 was awarded $7.9 million in funding from the Governemt of Canada’s CanCode program to scale and grow their programs across Canada.
Heather is an active Angel Investor and has been named one of Canada’s Top 100 Most Powerful Women in the Trendsetters & Trailblazers category, as well as one of the Globe and Mail’s Top 12 Canadian “Innovators at Work”. She lives in Toronto with her husband and two young children.
