Patricia Lorenz believes that entrepreneurship is vital to a country’s future – that competing globally requires an ability to recognize economic opportunities, local networks that can help businesses develop an international outlook for harnessing talent and building international partnerships. As Chair of what is now Angel Investors Ontario, she led the development of Ontario’s angel group network for 6 years. During that time, the network grew to ~1000 investors that levered > $450M of private capital into > 230 companies and created >3200 jobs – catalyzed by only ~$10M in government funding. She also served on the Board of the National Angel Capital Organization and Ontario’s Expert Advisory Committee to establish campus linked accelerators.
In business she has been a strategist, problem solver, operator, entrepreneur, financial leader in a diverse group of industries – ranging from tax and banking through tech to manufacturing, distribution and publishing. Passionate about commercializing technology, she gained experience with intellectual property by leading a university patenting and licensing office for 5 years and doubling its revenue.
An enthusiastic life long learner, mentor and volunteer, she is an MBA , a CPA, CA in Canada a CPA and CGMA in the US, a licensed veterinarian and a horticulturist. Most days she can be found at Avertus Inc., company that develops and sells mobile EEGs and related software for acquiring, analysing and interfacing with brain activity or serving on the board of Agricorp, a provincial agency that provides agricultural business risk management programs.
