Rose Marie Gage

Recognized by both Inspiring 50 Canada and the Canadian Board Diversity Council as one of Canada’s Diversity 50 appointments, Rose has substantial governance and advisory experience, managing strategy across many different industries and functions. Her vast experience with a wide assortment of enterprises and functions provides unique value in risk oversight. Rose has repeatedly illustrated the ability to balance enterprise risk against strategic direction in order to maximize value and deliver results.  Whether it is a $50 M organization or a multi-billion pursuit, she has leadership experience and knowledge that apply to a wide array of organizations. Her experience in roles such as Chair, Vice Chair, Treasurer and Director combined with experience in Strategic Planning, Risk, Governance and HR committees contributes to Rose’s ability to add value and have a valued voice at the Board table. She can provide connections through her vast and deep network or expertise; whatever is required. From a fulltime career perspective, she has applied her efforts in various areas and has often times relied heavily on mathematics, data and analytics while leveraging her creative side to exceed objectives. Lastly, Rose has consistently devoted time and energy to volunteering within her community – whether it is in her own backyard or for the benefit of Canadians.  Her passion for over 25 years has been to level the playing field and open hiring to a wider pool of candidates. She also takes great pride in helping many reach their intended potential through advice and mentorship.

Rose is CEO of Ag Energy Co-operative Ltd., a $50 M CAD energy co-operative that serves Ontario with natural gas and electricity solutions. The Co-op’s reach (i.e. members’ members) is ~ 6000 employees, greater than $2B CAD of revenue annually and over 90% of the revenue remains in Ontario. It is a made in Canada, for Canada entity that gives back through contribution, caring and collaboration.

Rose leads the Co-operative; her specific accountabilities are Strategy, Enterprise Risk Management, Government Relations, non-core Business Development (i.e. products, services and partnerships), Branding and Board support. She is engaged in the development/reform of the energy, co-operative, agriculture, and rural sectors – facilitating to make a profit and a difference. 

Rose currently serves on the following Boards (in order of time served):

  • Chair of the Ontario Agri-Food Technology Association

  • Chair of the Agri-Technology Commercialization Centre

  • Vice-Chair of the Agricultural Research Institute of Ontario

  • Independent Board Director of Hadrian Manufacturing

  • Director of the University of Ottawa Heart Institute Foundation

  • Special Advisor and former Vice-Chair of the Women in Leadership Foundation

  • Policy Committee Member, Ontario Chamber of Commerce

Rose is a connector of people, ideas and opportunities. She is a mentor, coach and facilitator to many.  She inspires through optimism, continuous improvement and strengths-based values. Rose has led many volunteer efforts over the years. Specific to diversity, she has held many roles with Women in Leadership Foundation (i.e. Advisory Board Chair, Director, Board Vice-Chair and Strategic Advisor) and worked with Founder, Maya Kanigan to shape this member-centric organization and its service offering. Rose was a member of the Conference Board of Canada’s Centre of Excellence for Women’s Advancement, GE Canada Women’s Network Chair, Schneider Canada diversity program sponsor and supporter of many diversity and innovation efforts over the years.

Rose holds a Chartered Director designation and obtained an Honours Bachelor of Commerce from McMaster University. She is certified as a Lean – Six Sigma Quality leader, the highest quality certification level available. She is an inaugural year graduate of the Judy Project, Rotman School of Business’ Sr. Female Leadership program that fosters future female leadership and grooms women for C-suite opportunities. In her 30+ year career, she has worked for global multi-nationals (i.e. Westinghouse, GE and Schneider) and has spent the last 8 years focused on her passion of service and innovation in the energy, agriculture and co-op sector.
